Dwight Trible - vocals

 

Vocalist Dwight Trible is a cultural bearer of creative spiritual jazz in Los Angeles. He has contributed to many diverse recordings including many under his name the most recent being 'Mothership'. Dwight performs around the world and directs the World Stage in Leimert Park.

 

Arlynn Page - vocals

 
Arlynn Page is an educator at Aveson School who has written, recorded, and performed with artists such as Stevie Wonder, The Roots, Outcast, 
Erykah Badu, and Zap Mama.
 

Johanna Moore - vocals

 
Johanna Moore is a teacher at John Muir High School and has a 
joyful singer for over 30 years.
 

Tosin Aribisala - drums

 
The organic rhythms that flows from the master percussionist, Tosin Aribisala, 
are undoubtedly an expression of his true African origin. Tosin's ability to write,
sing and arrange music justifies his poetic drumming style. Check out his
most recent release, 'The Big Illusion'.
 

Jamael Dean - keyboard

 
Jamael Dean is a young jazz prodigy, he has worked Kamasi Washington, Thundercat, Miguel Atwood-Ferguson and Carlos Niño. His music reflects the influence of his LA contemporaries and jazz ancestors, including Sun Ra, Alice Coltrane, Herbie Hancock and his grandfather soul jazz drummer Donald Dean.
 

Paul Livingstone - bass & sitar

 
Performing artist and activist Paul Livingstone brings a grounded knowledge of traditions of east and west to his work. He has performed on three Grammy-winning records and performs around the world leading the Arohi Ensemble, 
as a classical sitarist and world/jazz crossover upright bassist.
 

Nakeiltha 'Nikki' Campbell - percussion

 
Nakeiltha Campbell is an award winning multicultural percussionist, teaching artist, producer from Colon, Panama and Los Angeles. Nikki founded 'Puentes de Poder' cultural exchange program with work rooted in a diverse repertoire including years of study in the Manding tradition and experience working in contemporary world music. Her new single is 'Afro Raices'.

Full album will be released on September 16th on all platforms.  Album release concerts are scheduled for Sep 24th at Corazon (Topanga) & September 25th at Zorthian Ranch (Altadena).

This lively discussion is peppered with musical examples and focuses around the importance of indigenous knowledge, including stories of his search to discover the traditional music and instruments of his own people, the Tangkhul. His message speaks to a number of issues as he addresses the violence and conflict of the region through his music. His message is universal for all of India and the world, with songs which lift up hope and faith in the human capacity to do good for one another.

Looking for a fun weekend activity? 

Learn traditional folkloric rhythms of Africa and the Caribbean with Troy Parker and other experienced percussionists.

Play conga, cajon, and other percussion instruments to learn traditional folkloric rhythms of Africa and the Caribbean with Troy Parker and other experienced percussionists. This summer we will be focusing on traditional Cuban rhythms of rumba guaguanco, palo, and comparsa. We will be accommodating basic level and intermediate level musicians together playing interlocking parts of various levels of challenge.

Sessions are held every other Saturday from 2 pm to 3:30 pm at Rhythms of the Village.

TIME CHANGE: Start time has moved from 7 pm to 4 pm!

 

Overlooking the Los Angeles skyline, join the new artist lineup of Dwight Trible, Paul Livingstone, Christopher Garcia, John Villa Lobos, Neelamjit Dhillon, and others to welcome the New Year!

This is a family-friendly, private outdoor event. Please dress warm and wear flat shoes, the event is on a wide-open hilltop area. Bring a picnic and follow social distancing guidelines.

The concert is a fundraiser for Soul Force community programming such as Odo Olo Ilu Ire drumming and Soul Force Singers for 2022.

LOCATION: 1050 Montecito Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90031
There is parking onsite, but Uber and carpooling are recommended.

Despite the chaotic state of our world, 2021 has been a very active year for Soul Force. We're proud of the fact that we've managed to do a lot with very limited resources.
These are the events we've produced and participated in both in-person and online,
with a combined impact of over 1200 people in attendance.

  • Music Meditation Medicine 8 monthly meetings, exploring music and wellness with guest artists and speakers, the 1st Monday of the month on Zoom.
  • Refugee benefit for 'Partners, Relief & Development (see below)
 

Upcoming / Updates:

Our New Year's concert, previously scheduled for December 31st has been postponed to January 8th, 2022. Click here for more info and ticket link.

Our Afro-Cuban drumming sessions are now being taught by Troy Parker and are transitioning to Rhythms of the Village on North Lake Ave in Altadena for their new location for 2022.

Music Meditation Medicine continues into 2022 with the first session on January 3rd at 7 pm. Sessions will continue online until further notice. Zoom Link
 
This December we held a concert and raised over $1,300 to support Partners, Relief & Development in their effort to assist children & families affected by war. Though the sun set on our concert, you can still donate to Partners to further their cause and provide basic survival needs to those in need.

An important principle of Soul Force is intergenerational learning. To emphasize this principle, we are proud to launch the Soul Force Youth Team.

Hosted by Dejá Marquez Hunter, join the Youth Team on December 10th at 7 pm for their first event. Poetry Slam Jam is a curated musical poetry circle exploring social and environmental justice issues. Open to all poets, musicians, and performing artists ages 15-25.

Dwight Trible ~ Cosmic Meditations & Soul Force Singers
An afternoon concert, Sunday, November 21st, 3pm - dusk


Join us for an amazing night of musical mediations straddling the worlds of free jazz and world music. Legendary spiritual jazz vocalist Dwight Trible will lead the ensemble alongside, sitarist Paul Livingstone, cellist Pete Jacobson, saxophonist Randal Fisher, percussionist Ava Nahas, Seung Park on congas and Evan Hatfield on keyboard.

The Soul Force Singers with Arlynn Page, will open this special event in a beautiful outdoor garden at the historic Zorthian Ranch!

This is outdoor concert at the lower Zorthian Ranch garden in Altadena this Sunday, Nov 21st at 3pm. Please carpool if possible or take Metro (Gold Line/ bus directions)
Free parking on site.  Suggested donation of $20.

Bring pillows and blankets for seating safely in your group, respect space. Limited seating / chairs will be provided for elders.

The interview is interspersed with musical excerpts from Horace Tapscott's 'Freedom's Sweet', an upcoming large ensemble release of immense importance.
